Alice M. Harper

Alice M. Harper (1932-1999) was a music instructor and band director at Annapolis Junior High School for over 30 years. She was the first female conductor of the Naval Academy Band and a conductor of the Maryland All State Band.[1]
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Miss Harper was a graduate of the university of Michigan and came to Annapolis in 1953. While teaching in Annapolis, she served as president of the Maryland State Band Director's Association and as a member of the board of directors of the National Band Association.[1]

Miss Harper founded the Anne Arundel Community Band in 1980 and was its first director. It continues today as The Bay Winds Band.
