On August 27, 1983, the community of [[Wild Rose Shores]] reenacted George Washington's crossing of the South River as part of the 300th anniversary celebration of the founding of the port of London Town. Jack and Mary McCorkle portrayed George and Martha Washington with rented costumes and a horse. [[Annapolis Artillery Reenactment Group|Ferguson's Artillery]] provided the color guard.
